So I’ve been very annoyed at most of the advice that folks seem to want to give even though we are not soliciting. However, some has not bothered me. Today I realized why.
We appreciate the advice that revolves around how to survive parenthood. And by that I mean, where are the good deals. How to not go broke raising a kid. Baby supplies that will make like easier because of cost or size, etc.
Advice we’ve chosen to really ignore because it bugs us has been about how to raise the kid. How to set a schedule. We all have different backgrounds and experiences. Each child is different. The morals, ethics and behaviors we want for our kids may be different than yours. So just because you choose to raise your kids based on some book you read, does not mean it may be best for us. Just because your house is in quiet hours at 7pm because that is when your kids goes to bed, does not mean its wrong that our kids goes to bed at 11pm if it means our kid won’t wake up till 8am instead of 5am. Are you seriously already paranoid that my child is going to be born round Christmas and that I need to make sure they feel extra special during that time?
I had wondered in my head why some advice doesn’t bother me when others do. I debated on if it was because I liked a person more or if I liked how their kids were behaved. And it really comes down to tips on how to raise my kids vs tips on surviving parenthood.
I want to hear about who has the best prices on diapers. I want to hear about the high chair that you loved or didn’t love and why so I can make an informed decisions. I don’t need to know what I’m “suppose” to feed my child and why. Tell me about your favorite consignment store! Don’t tell me to sleep all that I can because I won’t be able to afterwards. Don’t tell me that I “have” to build a nursery because that is what everyone does.
And the biggest thing….please don’t tell Brian that Beta will have a lot of cute pink stuff because she is a girl and he just needs to deal. LOL
